Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra returns to ‘Swing into Autumn’ click link –
Saturday 12th October at 7:30pm
Redditch music lovers can combine a great night out with support for local charity Carers Careline when the highly acclaimed Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra (MYJO) returns to Redditch, this time for an autumn concert of big band music.
The concert, promoted by the Rotary Club of Redditch, is taking place at Trinity High School ( click https://binged.it/32y2Q3W ) on Saturday, 12th October at 7.30pm, and is the fourth occasion in recent years that MYJO have performed here in support of Rotary and its charitable work.
MYJO has been described as one of the world’s top young big bands. For twenty years it was unbeaten in the BBC National Big Band Competition, including the final year in 2006. The band has been successful in a number of international big band competitions and has appeared in concert with many of the most famous names in jazz and entertainment, including Arturo Sandoval, Rob McConnell, Bob Florence, Benny Carter and BBC2’s Claire Teal. Tours have included the USA, Russia, Canada and Europe.
The band is led by top trumpeter John Ruddick, who has performed with the Don Lusher Big Band and BBC Big Band, and worked with such names as Sir Bruce Forsyth, George Shearing, Peggie Lee and Claire Teal. In 2014, John was awarded an MBE for his work with MYJO, which is itself a charity.
Over the years, MYJO has included talented young players from Redditch, several of whom have made successful careers in the music industry. In recent years, its line-up has included Xhosa Cole, winner of BBC Young Jazz Musician 2018
Carers Careline was established in March 1988 and its aim is to promote the health, mental and emotional wellbeing of adult carers, especially the elderly in the local community, through the identification of hidden carers, early intervention, preventative action and pastoral care.
This fundraising event is being sponsored by McCarthy & Stone, to promote their Milward Place retirement living development in Redditch.
Tickets for the concert, £12, can be obtained from the Guest Services kiosk in Worcester Square, Kingfisher Centre, Redditch (next to Costa) or by visiting www.rotaryclubofredditch.org.uk for more information and further options for ticket purchase.
